Goldfields nurse wins in WA health awards

A Goldfields advanced skills enrolled nurse who has given 30 years' dedicated service to the region has won a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Department of Health’s Clinical Supervision Awards.

L-R Goldfields nurses Hayley Rowe, Ray Chittick and Mary Passmore.

The winners were announced at a function at Frasers State Reception Centre in Perth on Tuesday August 4.

Mary Passmore has been a strong supporter of mentoring within her clinical area at Kalgoorlie Hospital and raising awareness at other hospitals in the Goldfields region on the importance of providing the best possible nursing care to all patients.  She was the first nurse to volunteer to be a student liaison nurse and has encouraged others to take part.

Geraldine Ennis Regional Director of WA Country Health Service—Goldfields said she was delighted that Mary had won the award as she has devoted her adult life to presenting the region in a positive light.

“Mary demonstrates what all nurses strive to achieve in their profession, she is a driving force in the advancement of other nurses especially in rehabilitation and palliative care,” Ms Ennis said.

“As a mentor and preceptor Mary is second to none, she has a wealth of nursing knowledge and skills which she shares freely with her students.

“Her students describe her as a stoic legend that they have had the privilege to work with.”
