Dongara & Mullewa Health Centres

The Southern Inland Health Initiative’s $300 million capital works program includes about $40 million to redevelop and reform small hospitals in Cunderdin, Pingelly, Mullewa and Dongara to create contemporary fit-for-purpose health centres.

Project overview

The Dongara and Mullewa health centres will focus on providing primary health initiatives that keep people well, in the community and out of hospital through:

  • promotion of good health
  • prevention and early detection of illness
  • management of chronic disease.

In addition to enhanced primary and community care facilities, the health centres will continue to provide 24/7 emergency care from upgraded emergency departments.

The new health centres are being developed in consultation with the local communities and will give the community access to a range of health services and providers under one roof.

The Mullewa Health Centre will be a new building that will replace the ageing hospital and the focus will shift to primary health care. The Dongara Health Centre redesign will upgrade existing facilities and allow more efficient and improved connection between all clinical departments and administration.

Timelines for construction of both the Dongara and Mullewa Health Centres are currently under review and building commencement and completion times should be available in the near future.

The Dongara and Mullewa Health Centres will include:

  • contemporary emergency departments
  • Emergency Telehealth Service videoconferencing facilities
  • group therapy rooms
  • allied health consultation rooms and treatment spaces
  • multi-purpose consult rooms enabled with telehealth
  • an ambulance bay.

The Dongara Health Centre will also include an additional six residential aged care beds, ensuites, and support and communal areas.
