Newman Health Service redevelopment one step closer
Newman residents are a step closer to benefiting from a brand new, purpose-built hospital and healthcare hub, as construction of the new health service continues.
The $61.4 million Newman Health Service, includes a $15 million contribution from BHP Iron Ore (BHP) and will include six emergency bays, 12 inpatient beds, an outpatient centre, medical imaging, purpose-built GP consultation spaces and two dental chairs.
WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Pilbara Regional Director, Margi Faulkner said once complete, the Newman community’s most important health services, including occupational health, physiotherapy and mental health will be located under one roof within the brand new hospital.
“It will be telehealth-enabled throughout, for 24/7 access to emergency and other specialists both in the Pilbara and Perth, and include state-of-the-art ICT to ensure capacity in a rapidly evolving digital healthcare environment,” Ms Faulkner said.
“The new facility is being built next to the existing hospital to ensure minimal disruption to patients, staff and the community,” she added.
The main construction phase is progressing well with the completion of the foundation and the installation of 240 tonnes of structural steel underway.

Stage one of the redevelopment comprises of the emergency department and inpatient beds, and is on track to be completed in 2022.
The completed facility is expected to be open to the community in 2023.
