Project - Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment
Project overview
A $572 million redevelopment project is set to transform Bunbury Regional Hospital into one of the most modern facilities in regional Australia.
When complete, Bunbury Regional Hospital will be the biggest in regional WA, reflecting its role as an important community healthcare hub for the entire South West region.
The transformation project includes:
- Expanded emergency department
- Expanded maternity, birthing, and neonatal services
- Increased operating theatre capacity
- New clinical equipment, including sterilisation and support facilities
- New emergency access mental health facilities
- WA’s first regional training, education and research centre
- Boosting of digital capability
Temporary relocation of the front entry
As part of the $572 million redevelopment, the front entry to Bunbury Regional Hospital will be temporarily closed to staff, patients and visitors while construction of a new main entrance is underway.
A new temporary front entry is located 60 metres north of the main entrance and is next to the entry for the Medical Day Procedure Unit.
There is wayfinding signage showing the way to the temporary front entry and at key points to guide people to wards, departments and services within the hospital.
Reception is being re-located to a transportable building at the temporary front entry and will continue to operate weekdays from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
To support patients and the public throughout this time, Meet and Greet volunteers will be based at the temporary front entry and along the main pedestrian route from 6:30am to 5pm every weekday.
The Emergency Department entrance remains open in its usual location.
The construction of the new main entry is expected to be completed later this year.
Services at Bunbury Regional Hospital continue while the rest of the redevelopment is underway, with works carefully staged to minimise disruption and maintain access to safe, high-quality care for patients, visitors, and staff.
As the largest hospital in regional Western Australia, the redevelopment will strengthen Bunbury Regional Hospital’s role as a vital healthcare hub for the entire South West.
The redevelopment will significantly expand capacity, delivering additional medical and intensive care beds, an expanded emergency department, increased operating theatre capacity, as well as new and expanded maternity, birthing, and neonatal services.
