Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment designed to grow with community
The redevelopment of Geraldton Health Campus funded at $73.3 million is moving forward with the release of the tender for main works.
Once up and running, the modernised, fit-for-purpose facility will be capable of handling the needs of the growing Midwest community, now and into the future.
The program of main works includes:
- a new emergency department
- new intensive care and high dependency units
- a new integrated mental health service inclusive of an adult mental health inpatient unit and a mental health short stay unit
- the latest in CCTV technology
- essential engineering service upgrades including the hospital’s large zone air-conditioning units.
This follows the successful completion of the forward works package of essential preliminary works which saw 400 additional car parking bays added, a new ambulance entry and reconfiguration of the main entrance.
WA Country Health Service Acting Regional Director Karen Street acknowledged the importance of partnering with the community.
“The needs of our patients are at the core of everything we do which is why we made community consultation a key element of the project.
“This hospital needs to meet the needs of the community now and for many years to come, so we’re making sure each step of the redevelopment is informed by feedback from local residents and community groups.”
The redevelopment is being rolled out in stages to provide continuity of healthcare to Geraldton residents, while ensuring access to critical service upgrades as soon as they become available.
The new emergency department and integrated mental health unit are expected to be completed in 2023, with the balance of works in intensive care and high dependency due in 2024.
