Partnership increases at home aged-care support for Bunbury residents
A partnership between Bunbury Regional Hospital and WA aged-care provider, Bethanie, is providing in-home support services to vulnerable older residents living in the Greater Bunbury area.
The ‘Interim Hospital Packages’ provide low-level support services such as personal care, shopping or domestic assistance in the persons’ home after they are discharged from hospital.
Bunbury Regional Hospital Director, Jeff Calver supports the collaboration which is expediting discharge home for patients who need some additional support but not acute care or rehabilitation.
“The interim hospital packages are a temporary and short-term solution to bridge the gap between inpatient care in hospital and other ongoing support.
“The elderly are among the most vulnerable in our community and, if they don’t need hospital care, we are doing what we can to ensure they are receiving the support they need at home,” Mr Calver said.
“We are pleased to partner with Bethanie to improve local access to services for the community,” he said.
“This initiative is part of the Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment, service development and reform program which is transforming services to ensure they meet the growing needs of the community now and into the future,” Mr Calver added.
Bethanie’s General Manager – Community, David Larmour said Bethanie already has an established team of care workers in the Bunbury area and we pride ourselves on providing care that allows our vulnerable older Australians to be in the space that matters most to them, their home.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Bunbury Regional Hospital to provide this wonderful interim service that enables Bunbury’s older residents to leave hospital earlier,” he added.
