Kalgoorlie Health Campus staff go extra mile for young patient
Kalgoorlie Health Campus staff have been praised by a young patient’s family for their kind, compassionate approach to healthcare.
Taking to the Care Opinion platform, the patient’s carer said their nephew presented to the ED for a cardiac condition, which came with the unique challenge of his Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).
“We were so well looked after,” the patient’s carer wrote.
“The nurse was very mindful of his autism and continuously worked with us to make sure that he was not stressed by the procedures needing to be done.”
ASD and ADHD are neurodivergent disorders which affect a person’s communication and social interactions, often creating challenges in new environments.
“Dr Juliette was wonderful and got into contact with his cardiologist straight away,” the patient’s carer continued.
“Never once did I feel like we were not receiving the best possible care.”
Kalgoorlie Health Campus A/Director Alicia Michalanney said the feedback was a testament to the dedication of the Goldfields staff.
“There’s no doubt it’s been an incredibly challenging two years but despite this, it’s clear
our staff continue to go above and beyond to tailor their treatment to each patient and ensure the best care possible,” she said.
“Positive words such as these from families we treat in our community have a big impact on the morale of our staff who work in a demanding environment.”
