Stroke survivor walks again thanks to Northam Hospital Subacute Service
When Paul experienced a minor stroke earlier this year, it caused some major disruptions in his life.
However, thanks to the Northam Hospital Subacute Care team, Paul has been able to get back on his feet.
WA Country Health Service Physiotherapist Hollee and Allied Health Assistant Ellie have supported Paul through a range of functional activities to grow both his strength and confidence back up.
“I came to Northam Subacute Care after I had a small stroke, I couldn’t walk properly and was in a wheelchair,” Paul said.
“The staff have supported and believed in me during my four weeks of therapy and now I will walk out of here – which I never thought I would do again.”
Wheatbelt Acting Regional Director Russell Colyer-Cockburn said feedback like that from Paul was really important to staff.
“We know our subacute care team is extraordinary, but feedback like Paul’s is so important to all of our staff.
“Helping the Wheatbelt community is central to all that we do and I’m so proud of Hollee and Ellie for all that they’ve done to support our patients.”
