Newman Health Service officially opened
WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Chief Executive Jeff Moffet, Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson have officially opened Newman's brand-new, state-of-the-art health facility.
The $61.4 million purpose-built facility was designed to act as a one-stop-shop for the community and includes a new emergency department, inpatient beds, emergency and treatment bays, as well as a dedicated medical centre, consultation spaces and a dental clinic with space for two dental chairs.
WACHS Regional Executive Director Pilbara Lisa Smith said the highly anticipated redevelopment project will help to deliver high-quality care to Newman and surrounds.
"It was important to us that community could start benefiting from the new hospital as soon as possible – that’s why we’ve opened it in stages and are in the process of finalising landscaping.
“The new hospital delivers a suite of care options under one roof and will modernise the way in which healthcare is delivered in Newman.
“Local artwork has also been installed throughout the site focused on storytelling. The works incorporate themes of culture, mining and pastoralism and have been designed to provide a culturally safe and welcoming facility.
“BHP committed $15 million to this initiative and together, we’ve been able to ensure Newman and surrounds have access to a gold standard facility, with care delivered by some of WA’s best and brightest clinicians.”
External works, including additional car bays and landscaping, will round out the redevelopment.
