Resident Medical Officer at Albany Health Campus, Dr Alec Disley, can’t get enough of the Great Southern and highly recommends the hospital for those commencing their medical career.

Dr Disley has completed rotations in general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, emergency medicine and psychiatry since starting with WA Country Health Service in 2021.

“Albany Health Campus and WA Country Health Service have so many learning opportunities for junior doctors with a friendly hospital culture and great senior teaching and support,” he said.

“In my two years here, I’ve already had broad exposure to critically ill patients, ward patients, clinics and theatre.

“I have been lucky to work closely with great mentors and continue to be challenged in a supportive environment.”

When he’s not learning on the job, Dr Disley can be found exploring the best of what the region has to offer – taking up activities such as hiking, camping, surfing and fishing in his spare time.

“There’s a great social scene as well with an abundance of food and wine options and regular events organised by the junior doctors,” he said.
