How Geraldton charmed this junior doctor
Working in country WA offers a wealth of personal and professional benefits but it’s often the sense of community that is like no other.
This is especially true for junior doctor Dr Mahak Gopal, who has found herself thriving in the supportive local community at Geraldton Health Campus.
Dr Gopal said the hospital incorporates a positive work environment, where there is professionalism and respect in all the departments.
“The senior colleagues are very supportive and keen to teach,” she said.
“The WA Country Health Service Medical Education Unit also provides ongoing learning opportunities, which are engaging and rewarding.
“I am so thankful for this encouraging atmosphere where I have been able to attain a wide range of clinical skills.
Dr Gopal believes seeing the rural communities come together is one of the many positive parts of working in a regional town.
“It’s clear that the hospital staff are passionate towards providing optimal health care to the community,” she said.
Dr Gopal’s love for the community town extends to the surrounding beauty and nature of the Midwest.
“My work life balance has been great and allowed me to really appreciate the beauty of the Midwest,” she said.
“Geraldton has spectacular beaches –whether you’re walking or swimming, reading a book by the shore or watching the sunset – the serenity of Geraldton is incredible!
“If you’re considering a career in country WA, Geraldton is a wonderful place for educational and career growth.”
