Junior doctor finds golden opportunity in Kalgoorlie
Meet Dr Bolanle Ayeni – a third year Resident Medical Officer at Kalgoorlie Health Campus.
Dr Ayeni said she’s enjoyed every part of her move to the Goldfields region.
“The staff are welcoming, easily approachable and have been supportive from my first day here,” she said.
One of the benefits of working in a regional town is the access to senior leadership and experienced health professionals in smaller settings.
“It’s a great place to develop basic procedural and leadership skills,” she said.
“The competition is smaller compared to metro hospitals, leaving room for a lot of hands-on experience, as well as continuity of patient care.
“Since joining WA Country Health Service, I have been able to expand my knowledge and skills through the available opportunities provided by the health service.
“No day is ever the same working here.”
Working in regional towns like Kalgoorlie can also provide work life balance with small commutes and family friendly places to explore nearby
“It’s been really rewarding to balance work and family commitments. I have also developed a support network who have now become family,” Dr Ayeni said.
“There are lots of wonderful places to visit too. A good drive to the beach in Esperance or taking a walk to see the historical landscapes, which show the diverse culture of the land.
“I would encourage everyone to have at least a taste of working in a regional area.”
