Esperance Health Campus adds home visits to maternity services
WA Country Health Service midwives in Esperance have commenced postnatal home visits to further support new parents.
The new service forms part of a broader local program that includes post-birth physical, social and emotional assessments of both mother and baby, as well as educational and breastfeeding support.
WA Country Health Service Executive Director Peter Tredinnick said the new service was introduced based on patient feedback.
"We really listen to our communities and are focused on making sure our health services meet their needs.
“In Esperance, and in response to feedback from expectant families, we have also added birthing classes and have two fully trained lactation consultants to support new mothers,” Mr Tredinnick said.
After leaving hospital, mothers will be offered a home visit every second day up to a week post discharge.
“Feedback from the home visits has been overwhelmingly positive – from families and midwives.
“One mother said that the midwifery team made her feel more informed, empowered and safe during the delivery and enabled her to have an extremely positive birth experience.”
“Our entire goal is to provide great person-centred care and this feedback shows that we are well and truly on the right path.”
