Peehi feels best when helping others
WA Country Health Service’s (WACHS) Peehi Blake is proud to be an Admission Communications Officer at Kalgoorlie Health Campus.
In his role, no one day is the same and he can be anywhere in the hospital. Whether it’s in the inpatient wards fulfilling clerical duties, assisting the outpatients admin team, ensuring their clinics run smoothly, or helping the admin team, Peehi puts his best foot forward.
Having been with WACHS since June 2022, he said it’s the people he works with and the patients he interacts with who make his role so enjoyable.
“One of the highlights of my day is coming in first thing, seeing all the fabulous staff on our admin team, and catching up about what the workday ahead is going to look like.
“I love helping people, whether that’s helping someone get to a ward to visit their loved one, helping our admin team or even something as simple as helping someone get down the stairs. It feels good to provide an act of service to anyone.”
Peehi said above all else, it was feeling valued that keeps him going in his job at country health and has allowed him to grow.
“Feeling valued is a big thing that keeps me going, since day one the work that I do has been valued and appreciated.
“I am proud of how much I have grown as a person since starting my career at WACHS. When I first started, I was afraid to even answer the phone let alone work on a busy ward! Since then, my confidence in my capabilities as an admin team member has grown tenfold,” he added.
It’s not just the people and patients Peehi meets, and the teams he works with that makes his career so rewarding, it’s also the laidback lifestyle of Kalgoorlie, having moved over from New Zealand with his family 11 years ago.
“We have absolutely loved being part of the diverse community here. I love and appreciate the laidback lifestyle.
“11 years later we are all still here and have no plans to leave anytime soon.
“If you ever find yourself or loved ones at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, know that you are in good hands. We have a hardworking team of people, from our doctors and nurses to our admin team, our PCAs, cleaners, kitchen staff, and laundry staff - to all of them, I take my hat off,” he said.
