WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Great Southern is launching a free Healthy Eating and Lifestyle (HEAL) program this October.

HEAL provides evidence-based healthy lifestyle programs focused on nutrition and physical activity. It supports people to help manage their weight, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease (including high blood pressure and high cholesterol).

Population Health Coordinator Joanna Steel said providing access to free programs like HEAL would improve overall health and wellbeing.

“We know that navigating healthy lifestyles can be challenging and sometimes not knowing where to start can be overwhelming.

“That’s why we’ll be offering HEAL locally in Albany.”

The Great Southern’s implementation follows the success of programs delivered in the South West and Wheatbelt.

HEAL sessions include:

  • one hour of gentle exercise
  • one hour of lifestyle education.

In addition, participants will receive an assessment at the start and end of the program, as well as an assessment and follow-up support at five and 12 months post-program to continue guiding them on their health journey.

The next program will be held in Albany:

Dates: Monday 16 October to Monday 4 December 2023
When: 9.30am - 11.30am, every Monday for eight weeks

Where: Albany Athletics Club, 143 North Road, Albany.

If you’re interested in joining the program, register by:

Phone: 08 9842 7510 and ask to speak to a member of the Health Promotion team, or
