Midwest team motivate stroke patients on their road to recovery
When it comes to rehabilitation for stroke patients, the road to recovery can be a lengthy and painstaking process.
Thanks to WA Country Health Service’s Allied Health team at Geraldton Health Campus, that process is being made a little easier.
A patient recently shared their experience on Care Opinion of how Physiotherapist Callum Darch and Occupational Therapist Georgia Williams provided much needed support and motivation on their path to recovery.
“The two people that started my journey will stay with me forever, and always have a special place in my life's story,” the patient said.
The duo’s positive attitude kept the patient motivated to complete their exercises, along with making lifestyle changes that can prevent further strokes.
“These two people pushed me and helped me believe in myself enough to come this far,” the patient added.
Georgia and Callum both agreed the patient was a pleasure to work with, noting that every new movement is a major win - from the first finger wiggle to the ability to sit up and put a t-shirt on.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a patient regain muscle movement in their legs, allowing the patient to move independently without the fear of falling,” Callum said.
“Stroke rehabilitation is incredibly rewarding, seeing people improve and regain their independence,” Georgia added.
