Bundillgoo Mia Education Centre opens at Carnarvon Health Campus
Revitalised facilities at WA Country Health Service’s (WACHS) Carnarvon Health Campus will serve as a specialist aged care education centre, providing students on regional placement with hands-on experience caring for the region’s elderly on country and close to home.
The Bundillgoo Mia Education Centre, developed by in partnership with The University of Western Australia’s WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH), was officially opened this week, and will also provide learning and development support for WACHS Midwest aged care staff.
Funded through the Federal Department of Health and Aged Care’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program, the refurbished site provides study spaces, a multifunctional meeting and training room and telehealth facilities for students on regional placement in Carnarvon.
WACHS Gascoyne Operations Manager Kumar Deep said that Bundillgoo Mia is a step forward in multidisciplinary health aged-care education in Carnarvon.
“We expect the education centre will be widely used by our staff and other health professionals to support ongoing opportunities for professional development, learning and peer-support,” Mr Deep said.
WACRH Director Professor Sandra Thompson said the centre presented specialist training opportunities.
“We are excited for the opportunity that this education centre represents, the opportunity to improve training in a remote setting for those working with and caring for older people, and the wonderful learning opportunity for students on rural placements with us in Carnarvon,” she said.
