New service at Bunbury Regional Hospital helping Greg get back on his feet
WA Country Health Service has opened a High Risk Foot Service at Bunbury Regional Hospital’s outpatient facility, Mamang.
The High Risk Foot Service supports local patients to receive specialist treatment close to home.
The service treats people with high-risk foot conditions or complex foot ulcers (with or without diabetes). It’s staffed by podiatrists, doctors, nurses, dietitians and diabetes educators who provide patients with a complete wraparound service – all under one roof.
Director Bunbury Regional Hospital Jeff Calver said the service is focused on prevention and early intervention.
“We’re proud to be offering this service locally. Our multidisciplinary team provides specialist support to patients to prevent foot ulcers and other conditions.
“Supporting patients closer to home means they can spend less time travelling and have more time to focus on their recovery,” Mr Calver added.
Greg, one of the first patients through the service, said he was impressed with the level of care he received and how much the staff have helped him to manage his foot health.
“I found the High Risk Foot Service to be very good. It covered all bases and I felt like I was in good hands.
“The clinic and all the staff have been a big help and are always very reassuring.
“I feel like I will be able to get on top of my diabetes now and I am looking forward to getting back into everything,” he said.
The High Risk Foot Service is available to patients through a referral from a GP.
