GP Psychiatry Phone Line providing excellent support to the Great Southern
WA Country Health Service and WA Primary Health Alliance’s (WAPHA) General Practitioner Psychiatry Phone Line is a resource available to GPs seeking assistance on specialist mental health queries in a primary setting.
Nominated as a finalist in WA Health Excellence’s category Excellence in Mental Health for helping GPs ensure patients with mental health, alcohol and other drug related presentations are well connected to support services.
Executive Director Mental Health Paula Chatfield said she was proud of the service’s nomination and the real difference it has made to GPs and patients.
“It is wonderful to see the General Practitioner Psychiatry Phone Line nominated, it provides a vital service to the Great Southern community,” Ms Chatfield said
“The program provides prompt assistance to General Practitioners, meaning patients can access support from their local doctor rather than attending hospital if they require specialised care.
“GPs have also said it helps to increase their knowledge on managing mental health and substance use disorders for future patients.
“I am beyond proud to see the partnership between Psychiatrists and GPs has been well received within the community and has become an enhanced medical resource,” she added.
The WA Health Excellence Award winners will be announced at a gala ball on 7 December 2023
