Board Chair Dr Neale Fong honoured with Australian Council of Healthcare Standards Medal

WA Country Health Service Board Chair Dr Neale Fong has been presented with the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS) Medal during this year’s ACHS Annual Awards Ceremony.

The annual ACHS Medal celebrates individuals driving quality and safety advancements in Australian healthcare. 

With over 35 years' experience in the healthcare sector across multiple disciplines, Dr Fong is a worthy recipient.

Among his countless achievements, Dr Fong established and managed the first HIV/AIDS Assessment in Perth, helping to develop new policies, standards, and protocols for assessing, diagnosing, and referring patients with a positive HIV diagnosis.

A champion and advocate for consumers, in 1998 Dr Fong was appointed CEO and the first consumer advocate to the Hospital Management Committee at St John of God Hospital Subiaco.

Dr Fong was also involved through the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council and Council of Australian Governments in the establishment of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care in 2006.

As President of the ACHSM, Dr Fong he has championed the importance of quality and safety across health care management including through educational webinars and conferences.

During the ceremony, ACHS President Professor Len Notaras AO commended Dr Fong for his outstanding career.  

“Dr Neale Fong has been nominated for his outstanding achievements in the promotion of quality in health care,” Professor Notaras said.

“Dr Fong has an extensive history of accomplishments, and his contributions cover many areas of the healthcare system.

“Congratulations Dr Neale Fong on being the deserving winner of this prestigious ACHS Medal 2023, your experiences and achievements continue to inspire us all.”
