Margaret River local praises midwife-led service
Margaret River local Heather Schofield always knew she wanted her babies to be born surrounded close to home and thanks to WA Country Health Service’s Margaret River Midwifery Group Practice (MGP), that’s exactly what happened.
Recalling the high-quality and compassionate care she received through the local MGP, Heather said she couldn’t have been happier to return to the local hospital earlier this month for the birth of second daughter, Allira.
“The lead up and birth have meant we have had a very positive post-partum experience,” Heather said.
“I was able to develop a strong bond with the midwifery team – and Mel my midwife in particular – that carried through my labour and post-partum.”
Clinical Midwifery Manager Amy Gumbrell said MGP models were continually recognised for high quality care to expectant mothers.
“Our Midwifery Group Practice has been extremely popular and resulted in more births locally here in Margaret River,” Amy said.
“Mums appreciate the continuity of care provided by our midwives as well as a more holistic approach to birthing.”
Heather said she felt energised throughout her pregnancy thanks to the calm, supportive staff, and peaceful surrounds.
“I had a beautiful birth and felt incredibly safe,” she added.
“It was a calm supportive environment, the midwives held space wonderfully.
“Giving birth at a country hospital meant that we got a beautiful community feel.”
