Helena acknowledged for supporting Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara
WA Country Health Service Aboriginal Liaison Officer Helena Lane has been named as a finalist in this year’s WA Rural Health Excellence Awards, acknowledging her dedication to supporting people in the Pilbara through their healthcare journeys. Helena’s nomination for Aboriginal Health Professional of the Year – a new category for 2024 - reflects her passion for helping Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara, and particularly in Karratha. Helena said that strong relationships built on a foundation of trust were helping to bring health care providers and people in her community closer. “I pride myself on bringing our community together to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people. “I know that the community trusts in my ability to see them through their good and bad days,” Helena said. Helena says the support of her team has made it easier for her to succeed in her role. “I am honoured to be a part of this diverse team,” she added. “We all come from different backgrounds and are working together towards one goal - improving the health outcomes within Aboriginal communities.” The awards will be announced at a ceremony Saturday 16 March.
