Grads head south for inaugural orientation program
Twelve newly qualified midwives from across country WA recently attended the WA Country Health Service’s (WACHS) inaugural Graduate Midwife Orientation Program in the South West.
Hosted at Busselton Health Campus, the innovative new program ran over three days and included a combination of face-to-face and virtual presentations along with skills workshops and simulations.
It was also an opportunity for the graduates to share their stories and build connections with their colleagues following a similar career path.
Clinical Midwife Consultant Elissa Spackman said the program is just another way the country health service provider was supporting graduate midwives.
“The program allows our graduates to bridge between the skills and knowledge taught at university and the clinical practice guidelines and procedures,” said Elissa.
“It’s all about bolstering their confidence and competency.
“The graduates can familiarise themselves with the equipment they will be using in their daily practice all while developing relationships with expert midwifery educators.
“It was wonderful to have so much support from the regional midwifery teams in getting the graduates involved,” she added.
