WA Country Health Service to support families impacted by St John of God Bunbury Hospital maternity services closure
WA Country Health Service (WACHS) will assist expectant families impacted by St John of God Bunbury Hospital’s decision to close maternity services.
Bunbury Regional Hospital Director Jeff Calver said the facility had reviewed capacity and increased staffing ahead of welcoming more mums and bubs.
“We’re actively working with the team at St John of God Bunbury Hospital to ensure a smooth transition for patients who choose to birth locally,” Mr Calver said.
“We expect to see 30 additional families birthing through the facility per month.
“Obstetricians working at St John of God Bunbury Hospital already have admitting rights to our facility which helps ensure continuity of care for impacted patients.”
Specialist maternity services offered at Bunbury include the Midwifery Antenatal Clinic, Maternal Foetal Assessment Unit, Antenatal Doctor Clinic, Level 2 Special Care Nursery and the Postnatal Visiting Midwifery Service.
“We have an outstanding midwifery and obstetrics team at Bunbury Regional Hospital who are ready, willing and able to support local women,” Mr Calver said.
“I’m very proud of the entire team at Bunbury Regional Hospital for stepping up to make this happen.”
The transition will occur across six weeks, commencing 14 May.
St John of God Bunbury Hospital will liaise directly with impacted families.
