Junior doctor gains invaluable experience at Bunbury Regional Hospital
The past two years have seen Dr Xavier Cornwall gain a wealth of knowledge and experience working at Bunbury Regional Hospital as a junior doctor.
With a focus on building his career, he’s now completing the Rural Adult Physician Training, Opportunities and Rotations (RAPTOR) Program - a 12-month full time pre-physician training program for aspiring rural physicians.
Working rurally means Dr Cornwall sees a wide variety of cases across Emergency and Medical Departments, access to sub-speciality rotations, senior support and streamlined training pathways.
“I would strongly encourage junior medical officers to try working in a regional or rural setting at least once in their career,” he said.
“You'll see different things, face different patient and logistical challenges, and grow as a doctor.”
Not only that, Dr Cornwall also said it’s the lifestyle that makes a difference.
“Life outside the city has a lot to offer and medicine can be a great way to experience a unique and fulfilling lifestyle,” he said.
Outside of the hospital setting you can find Xavier spending time with his young family, keeping active and exploring the South West.
