Geraldton is the place to be for Dr Drake-Brockman
Geraldton Health Campus’ Dr Lydia Drake-Brockman is an aspiring rural general practitioner. With a love for the laidback lifestyle, Geraldton is where she wants to be.
Currently undertaking the Clinical Service Improvement Program, Dr Drake-Brockman has taken a pause from clinical work to streamline and improve service delivery processes at the hospital.
Dr Drake-Brockman completed her medical internship in the city before heading to country WA and has since been supported through the progression of her career by the team at Geraldton.
“WA Country Health Service has allowed me to secure terms more suitable to my specialty,” she said.
“Including obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency and general medicine.”
Dr Drake-Brockman recommends everyone experience working in the country.
“Things are different, and it allows you to be adaptable, creative and flexible,” she added.
After her first few months of integrating into the town, Dr Drake-Brockman has now fallen in love with Geraldton.
“I feel connected here, it’s easy to socialise with people through shared interests,” she said.
“I surf a few days a week, often with a bunch of my healthcare peers - I’ve just joined a run club and I go to hot yoga once a week.
