Great Southern growing great doctors
WA Country Health Service’s Dr Philip Cavanagh is proud to call the Great Southern home, from opportunities to grow professionally at Albany Regional Hospital, to raising a family – the region has it all.
After working as a paramedic in Queensland, Dr Cavanagh made the decision to head west to pursue a career in medicine.
During his studies, Dr Cavanagh and his family quickly fell in love with all that country WA had to offer.
“We chose to stay in country WA because of the lifestyle,” he said.
“The land allows us to live the life we want to live and raise the kind of family that we want to have.”
Dr Cavanagh said working regionally has also strengthened his clinical skills.
“WA Country Health Service offers unique opportunities for junior doctors to be more involved in clinical spaces,” he added.
“I firmly believe that living and working in country WA has made me a better doctor.”
