Broome gives Dr Ahmed a range of opportunities
WA Country Health Service’s Dr Kamran Ahmed says Broome Regional Hospital is a great place to work – it’s only a bonus his days off are spent crabbing and camping.
Having previously worked as a nurse in the Goldfields, South West and Wheatbelt, Dr Ahmed knew there was no place he’d rather be than country WA.
“The experiences I had as a nurse not only solidified my desire to pursue medicine but to practise it rurally,” he said.
Now in Broome as a medical intern, Dr Ahmed embraces every opportunity available, strengthening his passion to contribute towards high quality healthcare.
“My time in Derby really opened my eyes to rural medicine, and the importance of the rural generalist role,” he added.
“There’s a breadth of opportunities available – both professionally and personally – as a doctor in the Kimberley.”
These experiences and the lifestyle on offer cemented Dr Ahmed’s desire to commit his early medical career to the Kimberley.
“Broome’s amazing hospital culture, diverse career opportunities and spectacular environment to work and live sold me very early,” he added.
“I’ve continued to enjoy it throughout my internship.”
Outside of work, you can find Dr Ahmed enjoying the region by camping, fishing and participating in the Gibb Challenge and Lake Argyle Swim.
