Feel at home with Bruce Rock's new artwork
Bruce Rock Memorial Health Service’s new artwork Ngalang Noonajin Miya (Our Home Bruce Rock) brings the vibrance and familiarity of the bush to residents of the aged care and palliative care service.
The artwork was created by local Ballardong Noongar woman and artist Shayna Campbell, incorporating her culture, community and language to celebrate local flora and fauna, agriculture and multiculturalism.
“Every artwork I create I designate a Noongar name for and outline a story and symbolism in the piece,” she said.
“My intention is to share a deeper meaning and promote the use of Noongar language in the spirit of reconciliation and bridging the gap.”
WA Country Health Service Executive Director Wheatbelt Rachele Ferrari said the artwork connects residents to their local community to create a sense of calm and belonging.
“By tapping into the culture of our local Aboriginal community, we’re able to ensure our facility is culturally safe and welcoming for all our patients,” Ms Ferrari said.
“We want our patients to feel as at home as possible. Having artwork that promotes a feeling of familiarity is very beneficial.
“Thank you Shayna for bringing the beauty of Bruce Rock into our halls.”
