Moora local on the right path with heart health support
Following a heart attack, Steven Yappo is on track for recovery from the comfort of his own home thanks to WA Country Health Service’s (WACHS) Heart Health Support Service (HHSS).
The one-on-one telehealth-enabled service connects those in recovery from a cardiac event, like a heart attack, with specialist rehabilitation nurses.
Steven said his HHSS nurse helps him stay on track, avoid unnecessary hospital visits and helps to make him feel reassured throughout his recovery and rehabilitation.
“Having someone check my appointment notes and answer any questions I have is great,” he said.
“A call from my nurse means I know they will help me stay on the right path.”
Steven said the service even supported him through his return-to-work program.
“The nurse told me what I can and can’t eat and organised a referral to the physio and dietitian,” he said.
“I’m new to this, so support along the way has been really good.”
Under the guidance and support of WA Country Health Service, Steven says he can live a normal life.
“I am very grateful to all medical staff who have assisted me along the way,” he said.
“Heart health is so important, we always think it will be the common signs that will stand out but it can be small signs. Take it seriously and always get it checked by your doctor.”
