Midwest is best for Nursing and Midwifery Coordinator Lisa
For Geraldton Health Campus Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery Lisa Pinkney, there’s nowhere else she’d rather be.
Apart from a short adventure living and working in the UK early in her career, Lisa has racked up an impressive 27 years with WA Country Health Service, 23 of those in Geraldton.
Lisa said the call to nursing came early in life.
“I have genuinely always wanted to help people.
“I remember watching children suffering during the Ethiopian famine and admiring the humanitarian work of the nurses in Médecins Sans Frontières, and thinking I want to be like them one day.”
Now, as WA Country Health Service's Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery in Geraldton, Lisa is putting patient-centred care front and centre.
“I think that’s one of the best things about this role.
“Nursing allows you to make a real and lasting difference to someone’s healthcare journey and to be an advocate for better health outcomes for your community.”
With the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment underway, Lisa said it's an exciting time to be in the Midwest, and that working in the country opens the door to opportunities.
“It’s great that you can see the world and work overseas like I did, but there’s also a lot of opportunities in country nursing you just don’t get anywhere else.
“We get to play an integral role in innovation, you can develop new skills or work towards leadership and management roles.”
Having spread her career across the Goldfields, Wheatbelt and Midwest, Lisa said she is happy to call Geraldton home.
“Geraldton has such an inclusive and supportive community and it’s a great place to raise a family, has great employment prospects not to mention affordable housing.
“Plus, we’ve got the most pristine beaches and brilliant camping spots right on our doorstep.”
