Collie HEAL program helping to keep communities healthy
WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is offering the free Healthy Eating and Lifestyle (HEAL) program to South West communities in August and September.
HEAL provides evidence-based healthy lifestyle programs focused on nutrition and physical activity. It supports people to make healthy choices to promote wellbeing and prevent or manage Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Senior Health Promotion Officer Deb Brealey said providing access to free programs like HEAL helps to improve overall health and wellbeing.
“HEAL is a great introductory program for people who want to lead a healthier lifestyle,” she said.
“We’ve had great success with the program. Time and again we hear participants say it has encouraged them to change their eating and physical habits.
“Sometimes the hardest part can be knowing where to start, so it’s great that we can offer this program to South West communities.”
Sessions in Collie follow the success of programs delivered in Bridgetown, Donnybrook and Warren this year.
HEAL sessions include one hour of gentle exercise and one hour of lifestyle education.
In addition, participants will receive an assessment at the start and end of the program, as well as an assessment and follow-up support at five and 12 months post-program to continue guiding them on their health journey.
