Shining a spotlight on Women's Health Week
WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is celebrating Women’s Health Week 2 – 6 September. This year’s theme is Your voice. Your choice.
By shining a spotlight on women’s health issues, the week aims to raise awareness, promote help-seeking, and reduce the stigma around the health issues impacting women.
One of many women championing women’s health is WACHS Senior Virtual Clinical Pharmacist Bo Youn Kim.
Bo said that experiencing her own health challenges motivated her to become an advocate for patients, peers, colleagues, and women in the community who may be experiencing similar issues.
“I want to raise awareness and start the conversation on how important it is to look after ourselves.
“I became a very passionate advocate for women's health since I experienced quite troublesome perimenopause symptoms and saw how it affected areas of my life,” she said.
As a pharmacist in the WACHS Command Centre, Bo said she is proud to play a role in supporting women’s health across country WA.
“When I review any female patient, I include questions around their menstruation, perimenopause, menopause, post-menopause symptoms to make sure they understand the symptoms and to help inform their treatment options,” she said.
Across Women’s Health Week, there will be a theme each day to help inform conversations and education.
