It’s the country life for me: WACHS recruits hundreds of new employees
WA Country Health Service has recruited hundreds of healthcare workers.
Chief Executive Jeff Moffet said in the last three months alone, the organisation had welcomed almost 200 nurses and since the start of the year, almost 300 medical staff.
These new employees span a wide range of health disciplines, from an experienced Health Service Manager in Wongan Hills in the Wheatbelt to new nurses in Albany, Broome, Geraldton, and Kalgoorlie.
“We’ve never been shy about workforce challenges in rural and remote areas,” Mr Moffet said.
“But we are working around-the-clock to bolster our workforce and provide incredible opportunities to clinicians considering a career in the bush.”
Mr Moffet said the organisation was offering incentives and professional development opportunities to anyone interested.
“There’s nowhere quite like country WA, as well as having landmarks like Cable Beach or Karijini at your doorstep, we’ve got competitive salaries and generous allowances on offer.”
In some circumstances, incentive packages also included relocation, housing and accommodation subsidies.
For example, up to $12,000 in HECS/HELP support is available for eligible newly qualified nurses and midwives who take up careers in the country. They may also be eligible for between $5,000-$17,000 in additional support as part of WA Country Health Service’s Country Nursing and Midwifery Incentive Program.
Nurses and midwives are also able to apply for the popular one year TRAVEL Program, which offers subsidised accommodation and the opportunity to work right across country WA.
The organisation has also committed to the ongoing professional development of staff, with generous professional development leave and allowances available for eligible employees – such as the paid student midwifery model.
Newly-appointed Health Service Manager at Wongan Hills Marg Smith said she was attracted to a leadership role for the opportunity to help upskill staff.
“I really enjoy supporting staff.
“I have been fortunate to have undertaken a variety of leadership and management roles both in nursing and non-nursing positions,” Ms Smith said.
“These opportunities have allowed me to lead programs and influence positive change.”
