Congratulations to our finalists in the WA Health Excellence Awards
Time and again we see WA Country Health Service staff recognised at the highest levels and the 2024 WA Health Excellence Awards are no exception.
This year, we have six teams and one individual recognised as finalists.
Health Hero Award
Nurse Practitioner Cancer Services Kerin Young from the Great Southern was nominated by patient Trish, who has been receiving six-weekly treatment for Multiple Myeloma since 2019. In her nomination, Trish said Kerin has a remarkable depth knowledge coupled with a bright and bubbly personality.
“She puts you at ease, she gives you easy to understand cancer information and provides hope and understanding,” Trish said.
Excellence in Rural and Remote Health Care
Our Telehealth Lactation Consultant Service, which helps country mums and bubs navigate the early stages of breastfeeding, has delivered care to more than 2000 new parents since launching three years ago.
The WA Country Health Service Palliative Care Project provides comprehensive palliative care services across our regions. This multidisciplinary team is focussed on improving access to community-based palliative care services, expanding access to in-home palliative care support, and developing innovative virtual care models.
The Great Southern Paediatric Service is also a finalist, nominated for the way the team provides families across the region with paediatric care close to home. It’s all thanks to a dedicated team of paediatricians, clinical nurses and allied health professionals.
Excellence in Aboriginal Health
Built on the understanding that the health system can be overwhelming and sometimes difficult to navigate, Country Patient Health Support (Country PatHS) is a journey coordination and support service for vulnerable people travelling to the Perth to access specialist medical care.
Another finalist in this category is the WA Tuberculosis Outbreak Response in Aboriginal Communities. Run in partnership with the Department of Health and other key stakeholders, the team has helped strengthen collaboration and guide the implementation of Tuberculosis screening programs in the Midwest and Goldfields.
Excellence in Mental Health
The South West Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (ICAMHS) was developed in consultation with people with lived experience, clinicians and the local community. It uses an innovative model of care to provide a central point of contact for children and young people needing mental health support in the region. We are a joint finalist in this category alongside the Mental Health Commission.
Congratulations to all our finalists. Winners will be announced on 7 November 2024.
