Exmouth Health Service team goes above and beyond for injured holidaymaker Darren
Newcastle native Darren is full of praise for the outstanding care he received from of the team at Exmouth Health Service following an accident while on holiday.
“It happened while I was washing the car,” Darren said.
“I slipped over and broke my leg – both lower leg bones.
“That was that, end of holiday.”
Luckily for Darren, Exmouth Health Service Registered Nurse Emily happened to be passing by at the time and immediately stopped to assist.
“Straight away she got things moving – contacting the ambulance, the doctor and the hospital to let them know I was in need of help and would be arriving soon,” Darren said.
“Once I arrived, the care I received from the doctors, nurses, the radiographer, the kitchen staff – everyone was outstanding.
Darren describes the team’s efforts as “superhuman”.
“They went above and beyond – they did whatever they could to keep me calm and comfortable while I awaited my transfer to Perth.
“My kids were really upset, and the staff were so accommodating and comforting, (Registered Nurse) Martin even organised for my wife and children to get to the local airport so they were able to meet me in Perth after my transfer.”
After a week in hospital, Darren was able to head home thankful for the care he received when he needed it most.
“As a family we’ve been quite lucky – we never normally have to go to hospital and I was just blown away by how wonderful everyone was.
“To receive this level of care is exceptional and I am truly grateful.”
