HEALTH ALERT: Protect yourself from extreme heat - THREAT REDUCED

Heatwave conditions have eased, and temperatures in these areas are returning to typical summer levels.
Coping with hot weather can be very stressful and tiring. It can take a couple of days for you to completely recover.
To help you stay healthy after hot weather or extreme heat:
- Continue to drink plenty of water so your body can get back in balance.
- Open windows and doors during cooler parts of the day to ventilate and cool your home if it is safe to do so.
- Get plenty of rest.
- If you feel unwell, make a time to see your closest medical centre.
- Contact family and friends to see how they coped and to check if they need help.
- Think about the things you could do differently so you are more prepared to cope next time it is very hot.
- Make any changes needed to your home so it will be more comfortable next time there is hot weather or extreme heat.

The warning area now includes northern parts of Midwest-Gascoyne including the Burringurrah community, Coral Bay, Kalbarri, Geraldton and south-western parts of the Pilbara.
Extreme heatwave conditions are forecast to be experienced in parts of the warning area, with severe heatwave conditions in other locations until at least mid-week.
People driving on the North West Coastal Highway need to be aware of high heat conditions.

Heatwave conditions are forecast to be experienced in these areas from Tuesday and continue for at least 3 days.

The warning area now includes northern parts of Midwest-Gascoyne including the Burringurruh community and Coral Bay, and south-western parts of the Pilbara to prepare for extreme heat.
Extreme heatwave conditions are forecast in parts of the warning area, with severe conditions in other locations until at least mid-week.
People driving within the warning area and particularly the North West Coastal Highway north of Carnarvon, need to be aware of the high heat conditions.

WA Country Health Service is advising people in northern parts of the Midwest-Gascoyne and southwestern parts of the Pilbara, including Gascoyne Junction, Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Burringurrah to prepare for extreme heat.
These conditions are forecast to continue until at least mid-next week.
Health safety advice:
- Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Fluids include water, diluted juice (mixed with water) and low sugar sports drinks.
- Limit or avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks (including tea, coffee and energy drinks) as these can increase dehydration.
- Apply sunscreen regularly.
- Tell elderly neighbours and other vulnerable people about the hot weather coming.
- Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
- Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
- If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
- Limit time outdoors. If you need to go outside, try to do so in the early morning or late evening. If you do go outside make sure to put on a hat and sunglasses, apply sunscreen and try to stay in the shade.
- When outdoors, wear lightweight, light-coloured and loose-fitting clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
- Sleep with just a sheet over you in the coolest part of the house. Remove winter bedding and replace it with lightweight, cotton bedding.
- Wrap medications needing refrigeration in foil or heat repellent containers with an icepack to keep them cool if there is a power outage.
- Charge mobile devices in the event there is a power outage.
- Get a battery powered radio with working batteries.
- Make sure you have shelter ready and water for pets and other animals.
