23/03/2026

The finalists for the 2026 Western Australia Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards have been announced, recognising the outstanding contributions of nurses and midwives across the State.

Forty-one nurses and midwives, along with three nursing and midwifery teams, have been selected as finalists across 14 award categories.

Three of our very own are among this outstanding group of nurses and midwives:
  • Melanie Woodhams, Wheatbelt – Excellence in Midwifery
  • Nicky Duncan, South West – Excellence in Rural and Remote Nursing
  • Wendy Hoey, Pilbara – Excellence in Rural and Remote Nursing
We are beyond proud of Melanie, Nicky and Wendy for their extraordinary compassion, care and commitment to keeping their communities healthy.

The awards acknowledge excellence across a range of specialties and practice settings, with finalists drawn from public, private and non-government organisations throughout Western Australia.

These prestigious awards recognise the extraordinary skill, compassion and professionalism shown by nurses and midwives working across the WA health system.

Category winners, along with the 2026 WA Nurse or Midwife of the Year and the recipient of the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Honour, will be announced at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards Gala Ball on Saturday 9 May 2026.
