The helping hands behind healthy communities – celebrating volunteers in the Midwest
Geraldton Health Campus recently hosted an appreciation afternoon tea for longstanding volunteers.
Members of the Geraldton Health Auxiliary and Geraldton District Health Advisory Council gathered with WA Country Health Service staff to celebrate the immeasurable contributions volunteers make in the hospital and in the community.
Acting District Director Geraldton Health Campus Cameron Ross spoke to the assembled group, highlighting the importance of compassion, dignity and connection in healthcare, where everyone plays an important role, and with volunteers at the heart of it all.
“To our volunteers – what you do matters,” Cameron said.
“The small moments, conversations and kindness you bring every day matters more than you realise.
“What makes this even more special is that each of you brings your own story, your experiences, your patience, your empathy, and your willingness to give your time so generously.
“Together, you create something powerful; a culture of care that extends beyond walls, roles, and job descriptions.
“You show us what community truly looks like.”
President of Geraldton Health Auxiliary Jean Murphy was presented with Certificate of Recognition – 2026 WA Service Awards, having been nominated by the Geraldton Operations and Aged Care Directorate.
Geraldton District Health Advisory Council Chair Don Rolston also received an honourable mention for his hard work and contribution over the past 13 years.
Cameron extended thanks to the volunteers on behalf of everyone at Geraldton Health Campus and the wider community that they support, including the long-time volunteers:
- Twenty years or more of service: Margaret Pike, Barry Criddle, Isabel Andreassen, Jeanette Cant, Ann Carpenter, Maureen Millett, Beryl Moulds and Lorraine Smith.
- Ten years or more of service: Aileen Ariti, Janette Bailey, Lisa Cook, Brenda Ellis, Karyn Hanstrum, Vera Mackenzie, Lina Mittoni, Judy Parke, Kiem Phan, Patricia Spark, Barbara Thomas, Barbara Tower, Merrilyn Agnew and Janice Mutter.
