Health Information Management Week 2026 – Trusted information, smarter decisions, stronger communities

This Health Information Management Awareness Week (17 – 23 August 2026), we’re shining the spotlight on our dedicated WA Country Health Service Health Information Management teams across our sites.

The theme for this year is: Trusted information, smarter decisions, stronger communities, which ties into the team’s accurate recording, management and storage of patient information.

By using clinical systems to proactively identify and address data entry discrepancies, the Health Information Management team strives to improve data quality and staff development. 

They don’t stop there: completing record and data requests, assisting with projects and service development, and health record archiving requirements are also front of mind.  

Clinical Coders are an asset to the Health Information Management team, and this year, longest-serving Clinical Coder Dinny Ruby retired and entered her new chapter.

Dinny shared her experience working as a coder back when coding a paper record meant catching a plane to remote WA Country Health Service sites, and battling floods, cyclones and tourists alike.

Her story is a wonderful reminder of how clinical coding has evolved over the years, marking the end of an era with the arrival of the Digital Medical Record.

WA Country Health Service recently joined North Metropolitan Health Service, and Child and Adolescent Health Service to celebrate National Medical Coder Day 2026; more than 80 coders came together to connect over clinical discussions and sharing their experiences.

As a tight knit network working closely across the districts to achieve standardised workflows and goals, the Health Information Management team is looking forward to what can be achieved next year.
