Making waves – Zahlee Venn secures WA Training Awards semi-finalist spot

Congratulations to school-based trainee Zahlee Venn for becoming a semi-finalist in the WA Training Awards. 

Zahlee is studying a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance through WA Country Heath Service and was recognised in the School-Based Apprentice of the Year category.

Over the moon with her recent achievement, Zahlee said her drive to learn and improve have been key to her success.

“I am proud to be recognised as a semi-finalist because it’s recognition of the effort I've put in and the support I have received along the way,” she said.

Zahlee’s journey with WA Country Health Service began working at Hedland Health Campus and Karlarra House, with each placement developing her skills and passion for patient care.

“My favourite part of my traineeship was the hands-on experiences and learning new things every day,” she added.

For Zahlee, her traineeship was a launchpad that set her healthcare career in motion.

She credits the “confidence, skills and real-world experience” it gave her to hit the ground running while acknowledging the people whose encouragement made all the difference.

“I am thankful for my colleagues, trainers and employers who supported me throughout the traineeship,” Zahlee said.

“I see this as an encouragement to keep pushing forward and building on what I have already learned.”

Zahlee’s supervisor Clinical Nurse Manager Inpatients Michael Beers, said he was extremely proud of her achievement, putting it down to her “enthusiasm, responsibility, positive attitude, maturity and dedication” that helped her quickly integrate with the team.

“Zahlee exemplifies the benefits of school-based apprenticeships by showing how early engagement in training can build capability, confidence, and a strong work ethic,” Michael said.

“She presents herself professionally, communicates respectfully with staff and patients, and demonstrates genuine interest in pursuing a future career in healthcare.

“Zahlee is a deserving nominee, and I am confident she will continue to contribute positively to the health workforce and her local community.”

Programmed Apprentice and Trainee Advisor Fiona Paterson was quick to shine a light on the contributions of all those who had cheered Zahlee on from day one.

“A massive thank you to the team at WA Country Health Service,” Fiona said.

“The team’s contribution has been instrumental in Zahlee’s development and in facilitating her transition into Hedland Campus General Ward.”

Fiona drew attention to the “invaluable experience and exposure” that Zahlee gained in the traineeship, building strong foundations in patient care and understanding patient needs.

Campus Manager Insight Training Samantha McPartland shared one final message of congratulations for the positive influence that Zahlee has had on those around her: a clear example for others to follow.

“What a huge achievement and such a great reflection of all the hard work Zahlee has put in,” Samantha said.

“It’s been so nice to see her grow and gain confidence throughout her traineeship.

“We’re all really proud of her; it’s been a pleasure to be part of her journey.”
