Bunbury Regional Hospital is the first site to welcome Sir Stitches, WA Country Health Service’s new perioperative mascot, as he begins his inaugural adventure across country WA.
Along the way, Sir Stitches will help connect clinical teams and raise the profile of the outstanding work being done by scrub/scout nurses, anaesthetic nurses/technicians, recovery nurses, Sterilisation Services Department (SSD) technicians and support staff.
Travelling alongside Sir Stitches is his "Bear Essentials" Infection Prevention Control (IPC) protocol, keeping him clean, safe and adventure ready.

While he enjoys attending team celebrations, education sessions and staff gatherings, Sir Stitches knows he is not scrubbed in, sterile or credentialed for clinical practice.
Perioperative Nurses Week had proved to be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the professionals who support patients before, during and after surgery.
“It was really popular,” Nathalie said.
“We had celebrations across WACHS included morning teas, decorated tearooms and a statewide photo competition that showcased the pride, teamwork and camaraderie within our perioperative community.
The inaugural visit from Sir Stitches was the top prize in the competition.
“The photo comp also gave our teams the chance to highlight the support they provide to surgical patients, but also the strong connections that unite our perioperative family across the regions.”
Stay tuned for updates from Sir Stitches as he continues his travels across country WA.
