Goldfields mental health services

Goldfields Mental Health Service (GMHS) comprises three Tier 3 (Specialist Intervention) mental health clinical services, which are the Mental Health Inpatient Service at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, and the Community Mental Health Teams at Kalgoorlie and Esperance.

Goldfields mental health services

Kalgoorlie – Community Mental Health

This service provides Tier 3 adult , Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and older adult mental health services. It is staffed by the following:

  • Consultant Psychiatrist/Clinical Director (currently vacant)
  • Visiting Senior Medical Officer (SMO)
  • Consultant Psychiatrist (shared with the Mental Health Inpatient Unit)
  • Visiting child and adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Visiting older adult Consultant Psychiatrist (one day per month)
  • Team leader
  • Nine clinical staff (adult)
  • Older adult clinician
  • Three CAMHS clinicians
  • Youth Counsellor
  • Aboriginal Mental Health Coordinator
  • Senior Aboriginal Mental Health Officer
  • A female and a male Aboriginal Mental Health Worker
  • Mental Health Officer
  • Two administrative staff

The regional CAMHS Team Leader is also located in Kalgoorlie. Services are provided within the Community Mental Health service rooms, in the client’s home, in the general community or at shared care locations.

The Kalgoorlie team provides regular outreach services to Coolgardie, Kambalda, Leonora, Laverton, Menzies and several remote Aboriginal communities.

Esperance Community Mental Health

Esperance Community Mental Health provides Tier 3 adult, older adult mental health services and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), operating out of two locations.

The adult team consists:

  • Team Leader
  • Four clinical staff (adult/older adult)
  • Visiting older adult Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Two administration staff

The CAMHS team includes:

  • CAMHS clinician
  • Youth Counsellor
  • Administrative staff member

CAMHS psychiatry is provided by a visiting consultant or by videoconference. An Aboriginal MH officer is shared between the adult and CAMHS teams. Services are provided within the Community Mental Health service rooms, in the client’s home, in the general community or at shared care locations.

This team provides in reach services to the Esperance Hospital Monday to Friday for mental health emergencies during office hours. The After Hours On-Call service is triaged through Rurallink 24 hour telephone crisis line with CAMHS using CAMHS after hours support Acute Response team in Perth.

The Esperance team provides a regular outreach service to Norseman.

Mental Health Inpatient Service

Mental Health Inpatient Service is an authorised mental health unit at Kalgoorlie Health Campus under the Mental Health Act 2014. There are six inpatient beds plus a low stimulus room.
