Vulnerable Populations Program recognised on national stage
WA Country Health Service’s South West Vulnerable Populations Program team has been awarded the Community Medal of Distinction by Children’s Healthcare Australasia (CHA).
The CHA Medal of Distinction recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to improving the health of children through service provision, leadership, or advocacy.
The Vulnerable Populations Program, led by Social Work Coordinator Kate Kelly, is improving outcomes for at-risk children and their families by supporting their health and wellbeing needs.
The team advocates for children to make sure that social circumstance does not negatively impact their health. The program was developed as a result of planning and collaboration alongside the Department of Communities and other government agencies in WA.
WA Country Health Service’s Kerry Winsor said the medal of distinction was a reflection of the program’s positive impact on country kids.
“It’s great to see programs like this one being developed to support the needs of our country kids.
“Through the program, our staff advocate for children and coordinate specialist services to help ensure at-risk children can develop to their full potential.
“Congratulations to the very deserving, hardworking team,” she added.
The team – including Social Work Coordinator Kate Kelly, Family and Domestic Violence health representative Tabatha Hamer, and Clinical Nurse Specialist/Health Navigator Kellee Biffin – attended the award ceremony in October to receive their medal.
