Goomalling aged care residents get crafty for Northam Farmer's Show
Aged care residents at WA Country Health Service’s (WACHS) Goomalling Health Service Sunshine Home recently put their creative hats on and put together arts and crafts for the Northam Farmer’s Show.
The aged care residents often do arts and crafts as part of their group activities, which are shown to improve social and emotional wellbeing.
They recently entered their handmade creations including coat hangers, crochet blankets, and paintings to the Northam Farmer’s Show - taking out first, second and third prizes.
Goomalling Health Service Manager Joyce Walker said the home’s arts and crafts programs were beneficial for the residents’ social and emotional wellbeing and celebrated the award-winning creations.
“Our aged care residents engage in fun and enriching activities like arts and crafts to build their skills and abilities,” she said.
“The activities for the residents are hugely beneficial in maintaining mobility, dexterity, social and emotional wellbeing.
“The residents felt very proud of their artworks, and we were more than happy to display their work for all to appreciate.”
The Sunshine Home residents are looking forward to the upcoming Toodyay Show on 5 October.
