International nurses making an impact in country WA
Internationally trained nurses Rejeena Beegom and Suny Binu are bringing their expertise and passion to WA Country Health Service. Their stories highlight just how rewarding a career in country WA can be.
Rejeena, a nurse with more than 20 years of experience from Dubai, recently made the move from her home in India to work in the Pilbara.
“There’s something profoundly fulfilling about holding the hand of someone in pain, offering comfort and knowing that your presence has made a difference in their most vulnerable moments,” she said.
“That human connection is what drives me every single day.”
Drawn to the opportunities provided by WA Country Health Service, Rejeena embraced the challenge of stepping out of her comfort zone.
When Rejeena relocated to Roebourne she found immense support from her colleagues and community.
“From being welcomed at the airport by my manager to receiving step-by-step guidance through my first few tasks, the support made all the difference,” she said.
"Living in Roebourne has been a breath of fresh air. After years of living in a flat, living in a villa with a yard feels like luxury.”
“I cherish the moments of sitting outside, soaking in nature and finding peace in my surroundings."
Rejeena also moved with her two daughters and has been impressed with the education and resources available to them.
She encourages other nurses to trust their instincts, embrace new challenges and take pride in their work.
“Western Australia is a land of opportunity, and the journey is worth it,” she said.
Suny, a nurse with 16 years of experience in India and Dubai, found her passion for nursing through her aunt, who inspired her as a child.
"The service my aunt provided to society and in hospitals was amazing. From then, I started dreaming about nursing,” Suny said.
After completing her Competency Assessment Program in New Zealand, Suny heard about opportunities in Western Australia from a friend. By November, she was working at Bruce Rock Memorial Health Service.
"The combination of a beautiful environment and a relaxed lifestyle makes Bruce Rock a great place to live and work," she said.
Suny encourages other nurses considering country WA to embrace the diversity of clinical cases and the rewarding experience that comes from contributing to a tight-knit community.
