HEALTH UPDATE: Severe Tropical Cyclone Zelia

Current as at 3:30PM 13 February 2025
WA Country Health Service has enacted cyclone response plans at Hedland and Karratha Health Campuses.
A 24/7 emergency management team is supporting the response.
With a focus on preparedness, WA Country Health Service has addressed:
- Staffing
- Supplies – medical, food, pharmaceuticals
- Establishing plans for high-risk patients
“Given these health campuses are located within one of the most severe cyclonic wind regions in the country, we’re well prepared and working hard to keep patients and staff safe,” a spokesperson said.
“While emergency and inpatient care is still available through both sites, a number of outpatient, allied health and nursing appointments will be rescheduled. Where possible, staff will attempt to contact anyone impacted.”
It is important the community closely monitors the situation via emergency.wa.gov.au.
“If you have a pre-existing medical condition, it’s really important your cyclone response plan includes enough medication and back-up equipment,” a spokesperson said.
If you are sick during a cyclone, call Health Direct on 1800 022 222 or 000 in an emergency.
