Tahnee becomes first Aboriginal Aged Care Assessor in country WA

As country WA’s first Aboriginal Aged Care Assessor, Senior Aboriginal Health Programs Officer Tahnee Nesbitt has a firm focus on providing culturally safe aged care.
Since joining the Aged Care Assessment Service in December 2024, Tahnee has worked hard to complete the required training to become a Satellite Assessor.
In this role, she prioritises assessments for Aboriginal people identified for the Transitional Care Program (TCP) run by South West Aboriginal Medical Services (SWAMS).
Acting South West Aged Care Manager Kylie Pettit said Tahnee’s expertise is improving service times and the referral process.
“This ensures that as soon as Aboriginal patients are medically cleared for discharge, their Aged Care Assessment is being completed,” she said.
“The detailed assessment is being approached in a more culturally safe way, and improving access to services that allow people to live in the community for longer.”
