2025 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards - Excellence in Aboriginal Health

Midwest Clinical Nurse Specialist in Oncology Samara Sekuloff has been recognised as a finalist in the 2025 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards for Excellence in Aboriginal Health.
Well respected by her peers, Samara holds a unique role as an Aboriginal nurse with specialised cancer nursing skills, working to implement optimal care pathways for cancer diagnosis and treatment. She collaborates closely with her colleagues and engages with community partners, ensuring that Aboriginal patients receive the best possible care.
Having worked across multiple specialist areas throughout her career, Samara is now focused on improving access to cancer services for Aboriginal patients. She draws on her extensive experience to educate cancer service teams on the broader cultural complexities Aboriginal people face when accessing healthcare.
Samara’s commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities is evident in her advocacy and proactive approach. One of her significant achievements includes helping move the Breast Care Screening Bus to the Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service, making mammogram screenings more accessible to Aboriginal women.
Samara brings years of leadership experience from managing the Pilbara Aboriginal Medical Service and working across various health and chronic disease settings. Her ability to navigate healthcare systems while ensuring culturally safe care makes her an invaluable asset to her patients and colleagues alike.
