Geraldton Health Campus powers ahead with energy module installation
The redevelopment of Geraldton Health Campus has reached a new milestone with four central energy plant modules now installed on site.
Built in Malaga, the modules will supply heating, cooling and electricity across the health campus through a centralised system.
The innovative modular design delivers a smarter, cleaner approach to construction by building the units off-site in a controlled environment to minimise disruption and speed up installation. The energy plant installation follows the completion of structural works for the new building, with all building façade components also installed.
The new building is connected to the existing hospital at both ground and first floor levels, which will allow staff and patients to move easily between new and existing facilities. Construction is now progressing on masonry, structural steel, ceilings and services for the new Acute Mental Health Unit.
Final roof slabs have been poured for the expanded Emergency Department, allowing for glazing, cladding and work on the external and internal walls to begin.
The Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment continues to create jobs for locals with more than $10 million in contracts awarded to Midwest businesses.
Once complete, the upgraded Geraldton Health Campus will feature an expanded emergency department, a new intensive care unit and high dependency unit, as well as an integrated mental health service comprising an adult mental health inpatient unit and a mental health short stay unit.
The State Government is also progressing the delivery of a new cancer treatment centre at Geraldton Health Campus, with $1 million in planning funding allocated in the 2025-26 State Budget. The $30 million cancer treatment facility includes a $9 million Commonwealth Government commitment through the Community Health and Hospitals Program, on top of a $21 million election commitment from the State Government.
